RFF Digital Platforms Project

RFF Digital Platforms Project

In order to shift more volumes from road to rail and achieve the goal of 30% modal share by 2030, the European Rail Freight Operators organized under Rail Freight Forward initiative are ready for a strategic change.

Digital Platforms are one of the instruments to achieve this target. An open European Digital Ecosystem will facilitate seamless information flows between rail freight partners via common non-commercial platforms, thereby enabling flawless end-to-end transports and efficient freight automation across Europe.

Aims of the project are:

  • Improve coverage by successively integrating all RUs, especially small and mid-sized players-
  • Deliver convenient and compliant access to essential, high-quality data and digital products
  • Boost and incentivize innovation to ensure the railway sector’s future competitiveness

RailData is actively and strongly involved in the project. It leads the RFF Digital Platforms Architecture Workstream.

The focus for Q1 2021 was set on the development of four selected key capabilities:

  • Data Quality (focusing first on ISR, ORFEUS, H30 and WPM data)
  • Coverage (inclusion of small and medium RUs into data exchanges)
  • Assessment of future digital platform from a technical point of view
  • Identifying of Smart Services

The team has been working hard showing positive results.
