Our Projects

RailData continuously monitors sector developments and the evolving needs of its current and potential users. Based on these insights, RailData proposes and develops concepts for new functions and services.

GPS Wagon Localization

RailData is conducting an internal study on how GPS sensor data from wagons could be integrated into the ISR Track & Trace system. A preliminary concept paper has been prepared for discussion with expert groups and member representatives. Many wagon keepers already equip wagons with GPS devices, but this data is often unavailable to the Railway Undertakings operating the wagons. ISR could receive GPS data and use it for various purposes. By combining this data with information from other sources, ISR can identify the RU currently operating the wagon and provide them with access to the GPS information.

Interface Modernization

As part of a broader modernization effort, RailData is preparing new communication interfaces for accessing ISR and ORFEUS. The plan includes the development of REST APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for sending and receiving messages. JSON message formats will also be defined, based on existing WSM and ECN messages. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, human-readable format that is easy to generate and parse. The current FTP-based interface and XML message formats will continue to be supported.
